The location of your television in your RV is always a difficult decision unless you are satisfied with the stock location. In the older rigs there are not many choices. By default, the manufacturer places the TV over the captain’s chairs. This tends to be an uncomfortable viewing angle for most people.
Being a 2003 model Bounder owner, the television provided by Fleetwood was a hulking tube model which added a lot of weight suspended above the driver. This accounted for some squeaking and rattling as you drove the rig. I opted to remove the TV completely and build my own matching cabinet to replace it (more on this in another post).
A couple of things to note:
- I had no desire to use the satellite TV setup in the rig.
- I did not intend to move the antenna connection either.
- All shows will be streamed over the internet or played via USB drive of some type.

Wow, nice job!! And very creative too!
Thanks, Tom!
I love this mod and am planning on using it in our Bounder. The only question is how do you hold the tv in the “up” position? Thanks, John
Hi John, right now, once you pull the TV up and then replace the top of the cabinet, the top of the cabinet itself holds it in place. If you look closely, you will see a piece of wood sticking up on the back of the lid. It “props” the TV up on top very nicely.
I am working on plans to motorize this. I have ideas-a-many on how to do it. Stay tuned 🙂
Great Job! I too have a 2003 Bounder 35R and hate the stock TV location. The previous owner removed the OEM TV and replaced it with a flat screen mounted to a board mounted inside the old cabinet. Better, but still in a bad position. I don’t have that recliner behind the passenger seat so I will probably add your mod for a TV mount that is in a very useable location.
I promise, you will love it there. We do! Take a look at this on what to do with the big hold left by the old TV: https://mybounder.com/2021/03/10/the-big-hole-above-the-dash/
Hey Jon, just came across your website and there‘s tons of good info for us Bounder owners. 🙂 I have a Bounder 35E from 2007 and always wondered how the fron TV has been mounted into the front cabinet. There are some screws to replace the wood panel but then no more screws to loosen the TV. Do you have any advice ? Greetings from Germany, Sven
Mine was held down by a couple metal brackets on the bottom but you have to remove the frame first to see them. It’s a pretty tight fit. You might post photos in the bounder groups on facebook.
