Ok, it’s not as bad as it sounds but we turned on our A/C and after smelling a bit of smoke and seeing it coming through the vent under the A/C unit there was a POP and that was that. No A/C. I took apart the unit and found that bees had gotten into the circuitry box and packed it with a nest. Eventually it either caused overheating or something short circuited but the startup capacitor had exploded (the “POP”) and it was a mess.
I swapped the circuitry from the rear unit to the front unit to see if there was anything I could recover and there was nothing. I ended up purchasing a Coleman Mach 15 which is stronger and lighter than the one that came with the rig. Make sure to keep your old controller board as you’ll need it.
Anyhow, just food for thought above. Check your A/C at the beginning of the season and clean out and nests or other infestations that may appear inside. Luckily I caught this before we hit the road.
