    Slideout Support Procedures….DON’T USE EM!

by Jon Glazer May 10, 2022
    written by Jon Glazer

There’s a number of threads out there about whether or not using slideout supports is a good idea.   This is my 2 cents and seems to be the most logical.

    Bottom Line…Don’t Use Em

Your rig was designed with slideouts that are mechanically balanced and rugged enough to support the weight of the slide as well as anything you do inside (within limits).  There is no reason that additional support is needed, otherwise you’d have other problems such as a warped track or rollers that need replaced.

This is what could happen if you use supports:

    • After deployment, regardless of length of stay, your rig decides to settle a little and now those supports are bending or twisting your slide and can cause real damage.
    • After deployment, regardless of length of stay, a tire loses air and now those supports are bending or twisting your slide and can cause real damage.
    • After deployment, to pull the slides in and forget about the supports and now those supports are bending or twisting your slide and can cause real damage.

Seriously, in my book, there is no reason you should use slideout support.
