    Slideout Flooring Replacement

by Wayne Stella March 8, 2022

As with most almost 20 year old motorhomes the carpet in my 2003 35R had seen better days. The previous owner had at some point had a dog that found its spot to go. And go. And go. Shampooing did no good and since I was planning on taking out the dinette I decided to take out the carpet on the slideout. It came out pretty easy as it was just stapled down to the plywood floor. I know there are plenty of articles and videos about doing this project. I couldn’t find anything on how to finish the inside edge where the slideout edge is actually above the rest of the floor.

I found some vinyl plank flooring (VPF) I thought would look halfway decent. I had never used this type of flooring before but it was pretty easy to install. The best part was that it was super easy to cut to size and trim for corners. I knew I wanted the flooring to be even with the inside edge. The problem I saw was the VPF was not sitting down tight against the floor. I knew I needed to put something on that edge or it would just crack and break when it was stepped on. Which of course I did in a couple of places. I found some VPF threshold that was a pretty close match at Lowes.

I used some liquid nails with clamps to glue the threshold to the edge of the VPF. All in all I think the final result was A Ok for me.
